Living Better

Eva

Our project, EVA, is a design similar to a smartwatch that will allow the nurse to receive messages alerting them to a patient’s needs. With EVA, we can dramatically increase efficiency, ridding nurses of unnecessary tasks and enabling the most important work quicker.

Freewheelers

Our idea, FreeWheelers is a free application that is accessible for everyone on any mobile device. It is a user friendly and very simple application that creates and shows the most efficient route to a specific location for wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs and buggies.

Learn Like You

Learn Like You is an app which helps children identify their learning style and then delivers learning experience catered to that learning style. Our app will identify learning styles and tailor resources to learning styles by providing learners with things that are suited to them.

LifeMosaic

Our idea, called LifeMosaic, is a self-tracking app that helps young people learn about their own health and wellbeing. It’s a visual diary for the user to track/express whatever they value in their everyday lives.

Loneliness Buddy

People who are lonely very often live on their own and don’t integrate with other people, our idea ensures there is always a voice to talk to. Our idea is to have a talking pod that will help lonely people who are unable to get out of their home.

Ocu-Helper

Our idea, the ‘Ocu-Helper’ is exactly what the name suggests; ‘Ocular’ (Eye) and Helper (Assistance). It is designed for those who are visually impaired or blind to help them navigate and stay safe when travelling. It will use sensors and cameras to tell the user of incoming traffic and many other things, such as close surroundings they may bump into.

Project Assist

Our software and hardware uses tracking software developed by us in Python to record elderly, fragile or vulnerable people’s actions within their household and informs their family of reduced movement (in the case of a fall), dangerous activities (cooking, boiling the kettle, etc) and updates family members/ emergency services in the event of an accident or time of distress.

Safe Route Home

Each year, there are a number of people who are accidentally caught up in crime, and crime that they could have avoided. Our aim is to help people manoeuvre safely around areas, avoiding crime hotspots. Our idea is to create an app that runs based on GIS (Geographical Information Systems) information to gather a safe, but quick route to a place.

Sign-to-word AI App

Our idea is to develop an app that can support those young people, especially students, are hard of hearing or deaf to develop their speaking, writing and vocabulary skills, by translating sign language to written words.

Smart Inhaler

Only 50% of asthma patients have their condition under control, and 94% administer their inhaler incorrectly. We will design a device fitted onto regular inhaler that records date and time of each dose and whether it was correctly administered.

Tech T-Shirt

Our idea is a t-shirt that saves lives of those who have a heart condition. It does this by detecting arrhythmias (irregular heart rhythm) and informing contacts, and if necessary, the nearest hospital.

TextSpecs

Currently, if a person who cannot hear needs to communicate with someone who does not know sign language there aren’t really any good options or tools available to them. Our idea, TextSpecs, will be a revolutionary pair of smart glasses that use speech recognition to help the deaf and partially deaf to regain independence.

Theo the Therapy Dog

Our idea is to create an AI therapy dog for autistic children. As a group of autistic children, we really believe in the benefits of therapy dogs but know that it is not always possible to have a real dog in the home or in places where we would need help in social situations.

Bacteriophage Production Technologies (BPT)

The issue we are addressing is the antibiotic resistance crisis, which refers to the ever-increasing numbers of bacteria able to resist even our most powerful drugs. Our idea is to produce bacteriophages using an artificial intelligence, and we will call it BPT (Bacteriophage production technologies).

ClassBot

Our team is trailing a robot which will allow students to take part in lessons remotely and we want to build a better version at a fraction of the price. We want to make a safe, secure and fun way for students with long term illness or Special Educational Needs / Disabilities to engage with lessons even if they can’t be there physically.

Social Kindness

An app that detects online bullying by scanning the screen for words or phrases that may be considered inappropriate, this then sends a message to your phone to approve if it was meant in a malicious way. If it comes back as negative, then this will be sent off to the social medias to report these people and have an action.

#BeMe Healthy Eating AI

Obesity is increasingly a problem for young people across the UK. Our idea is to create an app that will track the eating habits of young people and encourage them to eat healthily. Our app will analyse the problem of young obese children and young people in Newham and look at different solutions to help combat this problem.

5μm Wearable Lifesaver

If blood clots could be detected it might be possible to help the person faster, so they recover faster, or do not get a heart attack or stroke. Our idea is a device you wear on your wrist and linked to your smart phone that is able to detect and predict the likelihood of developing a blood clot.

CHARIE

Our idea focuses on home automation for care and support in the home. We will build a robot that will help people out in several ways. There is a reminder that reminds you when you need to do things. It will help people stay safe, reduce energy, and gain information which they will find useful.

Dimming Dyslexia

Our idea strives to help those with difficulties in literacy and reading so they can achieve as much as they can. Our program works to analyse texts and resources that the students are using and translate them into an easier format to comprehend such as a cartoons, videos or certain fonts such as ‘Open’ which is a dyslexic font.

RoboAid

RoboAid is a robot friend that provides support and aid for those struggling with anxiety and autism. Its sensing technology will be able to sense when a panic attack, anxiety attack or autistic meltdown is about to start. If one is sensed, the robot will give you tips and support you throughout it as well as calling a programmed emergency number. It will also alert staff, if in a public place.

Living Together

Dundee Discover AI

We will be using AI to make bus travel more efficient, less time consuming and greener for the environment. Driverless busses, bus stops and personal devices will be linked via the internet, allowing buses to provide the most efficient trip based on customers in the area.

SmartTraffic

Our idea takes congestion within cities into consideration. We will tap into existing city infrastructure such as weight sensors under roads and cameras on traffic lights. Through tapping into these, we can use AI and data stored to try to lower congestion.

Vivado

Our idea is a safe transport and assault prevention app. Our AI uses location data from the phone’s GPS as well as crime data from government databases online to have a constantly updating feed of crime in the user’s current area. Our app will help people live and travel more safely, and get access to help and safety when needed.

Hello World

Our idea is to make social media truly social by making an app that can allow deaf, young people to speak to others. Our app will be able to use artificial intelligence to recognise actions and translate them into words, consequently changing sign into text. This can open up opportunities for calls and messages to others.

Living Longer

My Little Memory

Dementia is on the increase as our population ages. Our idea is to create an app that will improve lives and help support their day to day needs. We will develop an app to create memories and keep patients with dementia safe.

Polly

Our idea is a voice activated personal assistant in a watch to help the elderly. The watch would be able to measure many different things regarding the users’ health such as heartbeat, sleep patterns and temperature

AI Medicine Dispenser

Our idea is a smart pill dispenser for anyone that needs lots of different types of medication at different times of the day. It would be good for anyone who gets confused or is disabled. The pill dispenser will be linked to an app app that alerts the person to take their medication. It will use facial recognition or fingerprint scanning to ensure only certain people can get the pills.

FALL DETECTION BELT

Our idea involves a belt that is capable of detecting when someone falls over, from this it will alert someone so that the person wearing the belt can receive medical attention quickly. This belt will take into account individual walking patterns, an AI system will learn how the person walks so that a fall can be differentiated efficiently based on their unique style of motion.

TOMODACHI

Our  idea is to enhance a smartwatch that people can use to help in alleviating and support early indications of short term memory loss (dementia) and a general need for organisation. The device can support the person’s daily/weekly activities by personalising the approach to assist in planning or organising themselves.

MedBot

Our product helps elderly people or anyone with limited mobility access their prescription medications at home. Our idea uses AI to create small delivery robots (Med Bots) that can deliver medical supplies or packages to different locations simultaneously.

HydroAI

Our idea is a water pump engineered with a powerful light microscope to detect pathogens in water. We will develop an AI that will use image recognition to detect common waterborne pathogens. Our aim is for our idea to be used in lower income countries, where there is a greater need for clean water.

Living Greener

AI Load of Rubbish

Our idea is a version of the bin store in apartment complexes, within which, rather than mixed waste being left for collection, A.I. will sort the rubbish into what can and cannot be recycled.

ECO BIN

Our idea is named the “Eco – Bin”. It is a bin that is able to detect the carbon footprint that is wasted on the rubbish you put in it. It will be linked to an app that will show you your carbon footprint each week.

PROfish

The problem we are trying to solve with our product is the fact that the oceans are full of plastic and there is not yet an efficient method to tackle this that has minimal effect on the wildlife that also inhabit the oceans. Our idea is a robotic fish that is put into plastic polluted bodies of water, such as the ocean, and swims around collecting the pieces of plastic.

Put it Down

So many people nowadays think it’s cool to ‘save the environment’ and ‘eat well’ but small writing and confusing terms on product packaging is very often misleading. We are going to develop an app will scan food products/listen to the description and give easy to understand info about its production, how healthy it is, and whether the company that produced it is a ‘green’ and eco-friendly company.

Robotic Beach Rover (RBR)

Plastic litter on beaches has increased 140% since 1994 and the rubbish washing up on UK beaches has increased 10% in 2017. Our idea is a robotic system that will be able to detect, collect and sort rubbish on beaches.

Urban Micro Farm

Our idea is focused around AI systems and a ‘FarmBot’, powered by a Raspberry Pi computer and by solar energy, which will help farmers, especially small farms, increase agricultural productivity, select crops, and manage plant diseases and pests.

WasteWatcher

Our idea is to develop a software application that helps to reduce food waste. We will develop an app on your phone, that constructs an ‘online kitchen’. The app will suggest personalised recipes and create a meal plan which uses your items and takes into account their use-by dates.

Ocean Cleanup

Our idea is a fleet of ships that travel the oceans scooping up the plastic. The ships will be powered by sails and solar panels. Our AI will sail the ships, making decisions on where to go depending on weather information, and satellite pictures. There will be no crew on our ships. They are like clever robot hoovers but bigger and smarter.
