Mental Health Challenge

Our idea will address the issue of mental health in young people, many of whom are conscious of asking for help. We will be developing an app that sets you gradual, improving mental health related challenges to accomplish. Our app will consist of a symptom quiz and an algorithm to set challenges for the most prominent mental health problems.

Bacteriophage Production Technologies

The issue we are addressing is the antibiotic resistance crisis, which refers to the ever-increasing numbers of bacteria able to resist even our most powerful drugs. Our idea is to produce bacteriophages using an artificial intelligence, and we will call it BPT (Bacteriophage production technologies).

Currently, if a person who cannot hear needs to communicate with someone who does not know sign language there aren’t really any good options or tools available to them. Our idea, TextSpecs, will be a revolutionary pair of smart glasses that use speech recognition to help the deaf and partially deaf to regain independence.

Project Alcolocks

Drink-driving related accidents affect many people in many different ways. We are going to design a breathalyzer that is built into newly built cars to try and prevent people from drink driving- which can lead to accidents and death in some conditions.

AI Therapy

At the moment, 70-75% of people with diagnosable mental illness receive no treatment at all. Our idea is a watch that tracks body temperature, body moisture, heart rate and word use, in order to assist and improve people’s mental health.

Smart inhaler

Only 50% of asthma patients have their condition under control, and 94% administer their inhaler incorrectly. We will design a device fitted onto regular inhaler that records date and time of each dose and whether it was correctly administered.

Loneliness buddy

People who are lonely very often live on their own and don’t integrate with other people, our idea ensures there is always a voice to talk to. Our idea is to have a talking pod that will help lonely people who are unable to get out of their home.

Theo the Therapy Dog

Our idea is to create an AI therapy dog for autistic children. As a group of autistic children, we really believe in the benefits of therapy dogs but know that it is not always possible to have a real dog in the home or in places where we would need help in social situations.

Our team is trailing a robot which will allow students to take part in lessons remotely and we want to build a better version at a fraction of the price. We want to make a safe, secure and fun way for students with long term illness or Special Educational Needs / Disabilities to engage with lessons even if they can’t be there physically.

Safe Route Home

Each year, there are a number of people who are accidentally caught up in crime, and crime that they could have avoided. Our aim is to help people manoeuvre safely around areas, avoiding crime hotspots. Our idea is to create an app that runs based on GIS (Geographical Information Systems) information to gather a safe, but quick route to a place.

EVA (Emergency Vibrating Alarm)

Our project, EVA, is a design similar to a smartwatch that will allow the nurse to receive messages alerting them to a patient’s needs. With EVA, we can dramatically increase efficiency, ridding nurses of unnecessary tasks and enabling the most important work quicker.

The Wardrobot

Our idea will help people who can’t use their hands, for example, those with arthritis, to do simple tasks. The Wardrobot is a automated wardrobe which hands the user their clothes

Dementia prevention phone (DPP)

Our idea is a device aimed at helping people with dementia and alzheimers. The device will have voices of family members telling them things whether that is to give them reminders or even just so they can hear their loved one’s voices.

DADA (Douglas Academy Diabetic Assistance)

Our proposal is helping people with diabetes and carers to have a healthier, happier and longer life. Our idea is to create an app that connects to an electronic pancreas, you can scan your pancreas using your phone and it would give you information about your blood sugars and how you are doing.

Our idea, called LifeMosaic, is a self-tracking app that helps young people learn about their own health and wellbeing. It’s a visual diary for the user to track/express whatever they value in their everyday lives.

Our idea is an emergency necessities drone, which helps people in areas hit by a natural disaster. If you are struck by a natural disaster, an emergency Wi-Fi net is cast over the area.

A Friend For You

The issue we are addressing is patients who don’t have much family/friends to keep them company in the hospital. Our idea is holographic friends that are in hospitals to keep patients company.

Generation Health

Our idea addresses a wide range of general health and well-being impacts on society ranging from obesity to diabetes. We created a reward system in the form of access to certain parts of your phone based on the amount of exercise the individual completes, as a form of motivation that is appealing to the youth and limit screen time.

AI Pulse

Our idea uses an AI watch to monitor the heart rate of people and if the person’s heart rate exceeds or decreases below the functioning rate, the watch will automatically call 999 and report that the person’s heart is not functioning properly.

Med Bot

Our product helps elderly people or anyone with limited mobility access their prescription medications at home. Our idea uses AI to create small delivery robots (Med Bots) that can deliver medical supplies or packages to different locations simultaneously.

Learn Like You

Learn Like You is an app which helps children identify their learning style and then delivers learning experience catered to that learning style. Our app will identify learning styles and tailor resources to learning styles by providing learners with things that are suited to them.

Project Assist

Vulnerable people are often left at home alone and have to perform dangerous activities such as boiling a kettle or cutting using a knife. Our software and hardware uses tracking software developed by us in Python to record elderly, fragile or vulnerable people’s actions within their household and informs their family of reduced movement (in the case of a fall), dangerous activities (cooking, boiling the kettle, etc) and updates family members/ emergency services in the event of an accident or time of distress.

Our idea is an AI toilet which takes in urine and stool from you which in turn tells you your vitals on your toilet seat, as well as identifying anomalies in your waste and it will alert you if there is something wrong or if you need medical care.

Our idea, the ‘Ocu-Helper’ is exactly what the name suggests; ‘Ocular’ (Eye) and Helper (Assistance). It is designed for those who are visually impaired or blind to help them navigate and stay safe when travelling. It will use sensors and cameras to tell the user of incoming traffic and many other things, such as close surroundings they may bump into.

Our idea, FreeWheelers is a free application that is accessible for everyone on any mobile device. It is a user friendly and very simple application that creates and shows the most efficient route to a specific location for wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs and buggies

The issue of skin cancer is ever growing in the 21st century as more and more people don’t look after their skin in pursuit of the perfect tan. Our idea is a free app which allows people to self-diagnose blemishes including moles, rashes or spots. This can allow for early detection of skin cancer as well as the detection of various symptoms of diseases which produce skin blemishes.

Helping the blind

Our idea is aimed at helping people who are blind to get out into the world more. We will develop a walking stick which would have a motion sensor camera and sonic radar placed near the end of the stick. This would pick up objects advancing in front of the person, identify it and send out a series of buzzes

Here 4 you AI bot

Our idea is a friendly robot toy aimed towards younger children to address the issue of mental health. Our robot toy will provide support and care for children who feel they cannot talk to anyone else about their problems. It is also a toy that will be able to diagnose how severe you child’s condition is without directly asking sensitive questions.

Tech T-Shirt

Our idea is a t-shirt that saves lives of those who have a heart condition. It does this by detecting arrhythmias (irregular heart rhythm) and informing contacts, and if necessary, the nearest hospital.

Our  idea is to enhance a smartwatch that people can use to help in alleviating and support early indications of short term memory loss (dementia) and a general need for organisation. The device can support the person’s daily/weekly activities by personalising the approach to assist in planning or organising themselves.

AISE - Artificial Intelligence to Support the Elderly

Our idea a robot, in the form of a pet, which is connected to an app which can act as a companion for vulnerable people which sends reminders and other helpful prompts.

Sign-to-word AI App

Our idea is to develop an app that can support those young people, especially students, are hard of hearing or deaf to develop their speaking, writing and vocabulary skills, by translating sign language to written words.

Living Together

Smarter Transport

We will be addressing issues faced by public transport such as overcrowded busses, empty busses that are not needed and assigning the correct bus for the situation. We will develop a programme that will control the timetabling of buses by using AI to analyse previous data collected from past years and current live data to see when to adjust a certain timetable

Dundee Discover AI

We will be using AI to make bus travel more efficient, less time consuming and greener for the environment. Driverless busses, bus stops and personal devices will be linked via the internet, allowing buses to provide the most efficient trip based on customers in the area.

Eco Travel

Our idea tries to combat the problem of increasing air pollution in crowded areas. The solution is an app using AI to suggest less polluted routes to drivers and travellers  and recommending drivers with less polluting cars to travellers.

Our idea takes congestion within cities into consideration. We will tap into existing city infrastructure such as weight sensors under roads and cameras on traffic lights. Through tapping into these, we can use AI and data stored to try to lower congestion.

Our idea is a safe transport and assault prevention app. Our AI uses location data from the phone’s GPS as well as crime data from government databases online to have a constantly updating feed of crime in the user’s current area. Our app will help people live and travel more safely, and get access to help and safety when needed.

Social Kindness

An app that detects online bullying by scanning the screen for words or phrases that may be considered inappropriate, this then sends a message to your phone to approve if it was meant in a malicious way. If it comes back as negative, then this will be sent off to the social medias to report these people and have an action.

Living Longer

Many from the older generation are unable to fluently interact with and control their technology. Our idea is an application to be installed on the computers of those who are less familiar with modern technology, that will help them make use of technology e.g. with the help of voice commands.

Our idea is a voice activated personal assistant in a watch to help the elderly. The watch would be able to measure many different things regarding the users’ health such as heartbeat, sleep patterns and temperature

My little memory

Dementia is on the increase as our population ages. Our idea is to create an app that will improve lives and help support their day to day needs. We will develop an app to create memories and keep patients with dementia safe.

Artemis Band

Our idea is a waterproof smart bracelet for people suffering from memory loss diseases including Alzheimer’s, aiming to increase their confidence and independence in daily life.   The bracelet will have features such as a location tracker to remind users where they are.

Our idea is a  pen that takes a blood sample and provides quick diagnostic results. So our idea can make it easier and quicker to receive the results that the patients need.

Dehydration Aid

Our idea addresses the problem of falls in older people, which causes their life expectancy and quality of life to go down and costs the NHS money. We will develop a wristband for carers to wear inside a care home, as well as independent elderly people outside of care homes, that will help improve monitoring and reaching emergency help when needed.

Pill Dispenser

Our idea is a modular pill dispenser which can contain different pills for dispensing to the user.  It also checks the pills against the AGS beers criteria, so that the pills are known to be legal and safe for use. It can also detect when pill levels are low in each module, and advise the user to fill up the stores.

Breaking Barriers with AI

Our idea aims to help address gender inequality by using A.I. to analyse public global health data from women across the world to better understand the factors that lead to better health outcomes.

Living Greener

Project Plant

Over the past few decades, global warming has been increasing in it’s danger and importance. Our idea is to use AI to determine where trees can be planted to help combat global warming.

Global consumption of meat is an average of 230 million tonnes per year. All this livestock contribute to global warming. Our idea is an app that provides easy solutions and advice on ways to cut down on meat and dairy consumption.

Robotic Beach Rover (RBR)

Plastic litter on beaches has increased 140% since 1994 and the rubbish washing up on UK beaches has increased 10% in 2017. Our idea is a robotic system that will be able to detect, collect and sort rubbish on beaches.

Put it down!

So many people nowadays think it’s cool to ‘save the environment’ and ‘eat well’ but small writing and confusing terms on product packaging is very often misleading. We are going to develop an app will scan food products/listen to the description and give easy to understand info about its production, how healthy it is, and whether the company that produced it is a ‘green’ and eco-friendly company.

Urban Micro Farm

Our idea is focused around AI systems and a ‘FarmBot’, powered by a Raspberry Pi computer and by solar energy, which will help farmers, especially small farms, increase agricultural productivity, select crops, and manage plant diseases and pests.

We have created a chrome extension that can help reduce a consumer’s food carbon footprint by scanning previous online receipts and providing alternatives, that are carbon efficient and ethically sourced.

Barrier Blocks

Our idea will help to tackle traffic congestion and the pollution it creates through using A.I. to coordinate the diversion of traffic to alternative routes.

Our idea is to develop a software application that helps to reduce food waste. We will develop an app on your phone, that constructs an ‘online kitchen’. The app will suggest personalised recipes and create a meal plan which uses your items and takes into account their use-by dates.

The problem we are trying to solve with our product is the fact that the oceans are full of plastic and there is not yet an efficient method to tackle this that has minimal effect on the wildlife that also inhabit the oceans. Our idea is a robotic fish that is put into plastic polluted bodies of water, such as the ocean, and swims around collecting the pieces of plastic.

Our idea aims to combat carbon dioxide emissions from cars. Our idea is a traffic light monitor that will be mounted on traffic lights, minimizing the time spent waiting at traffic lights.

AI Load of Rubbish

Our idea is a version of the bin store in apartment complexes, within which, rather than mixed waste being left for collection, A.I. will sort the rubbish into what can and cannot be recycled.

Instaclean beach clean app

Our idea revolves around local beach cleans, which we hope to make accessible to more people through an app. This app will incorporate software that uses artificial intelligence to analyse weather patterns and relay the associated plastic pollution levels to its users.

Our idea is named the “Eco – Bin”. It is a bin that is able to detect the carbon footprint that is wasted on the rubbish you put in it. It will be linked to an app that will show you your carbon footprint each week.
