Meet our Judges

Mark Martin MBE, ICT Teacher

Mark Martin aka @Urban_Teacher is recognised worldwide for his passion for education and technology. He has taught ICT for over 10 years and has become an expert in helping teachers and schools use technology to improve teaching and learning. As well as being an international speaker, Mark is also actively involved in the UK tech sector, supporting tech companies and promoting cultural diversity within organisation. 

Liz Williams MBE, Digital Society Director at BT Group

Liz leads BT Group’s digital and social inclusion strategies and cross sector collaborations and is the architect of BT’s commitment to build tech literacy in the next generation. Liz is Social Mobility Commissioner and Chair of the Good Things Foundation, and sits on the Board of the Government’s Digital Skills Partnership. In 2019 she was awarded an MBE for services to digital literacy and social mobility.

Joysy John, Director of Education at Nesta

Joysy leads Nesta’s work in education across innovation programmes, research and investment. Joysy is passionate about education, entrepreneurship and women’s empowerment. She helped launch three non-profits focused on education and founded Founders Fit to help startup leaders find the right cofounders. She is also founder of the London chapter of the Startup Leadership Program.

Professor Sue Black OBE

Sue is an award-winning computer scientist, radical thinker, and social entrepreneur. Sue is a passionate advocate for women in tech, which led to her founding #techmums, a social enterprise which empowers mums and their families through technology. Sue was named in the list of top 50 women in tech in Europe, and was the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Lovie Awards 2018

Piers Linney, Entrepreneur

Piers Linney is best known as a former ‘Dragon’ on Dragons’ Den and philanthropist on The Secret Millionaire. Piers is a Trustee of Nesta and a Non Executive Director of the government-owned British Business Bank. Piers has founded several technology and communications businesses, has been recognised as one of the top 100 most influential Black Britons and is a champion of entrepreneurship and small businesses.

Peter Bloomfield, Senior AI/Machine learning Policy & Research Manager at Digital Catapult

Peter works with startups to help them to scale their machine learning and commercial capabilities. He is also working on AI public policy, government strategy and mapping the UK’s evolving AI ecosystem. Before working at Digital Catapult, Peter was a Neuroscientist and he has worked as a scientific consultant on projects developing human-computer interfaces for immersive environments.

Elena Sinel, Founder of Teens in AI

Elena Sinel is an award-winning social entrepreneur and founder of Teens In AI and Acorn Aspirations, motivated to make a difference in the world by empowering young people aged 12-18 to solve real problems through artificial intelligence. To date, the program inspired over 5000 young people across the world to solve UN Sustainable Development Goals through artificial intelligence.
